He rubbed his hands together.
“How much have you read?”
“Enough to know you’re considering divorce.”
My husband lowered his head.
For a few seconds, neither of us spoke.
Then he whispered:
“Not.”
That one word left me breathless.
“How long?”
“A few months.”
I swallowed hard.
“Is it because I can’t see?”
He looked up immediately.
“No. Sutton, no.”
“So why?”
He looked away
“And who is Rebecca? Are you involved with her?”
“What? No! Absolutely not.”
“Then explain why you hid all this!”
Ashton covered his face.
“Because I was ashamed.”“About me?”
He shook his head.
“About myself.”
I looked at him.
Finally he began to explain.
Four months earlier, he had started dating Rebecca because he was struggling with exhaustion, frustration, and guilt.
He admitted that adapting to the changed circumstances proved more difficult than he expected.
Not because I did anything wrong.
But he convinced himself that being a good husband meant solving all his problems himself.
