“Well, somehow every conversation turns into a conversation.”
His words hurt
I finally asked the question I had been avoiding.
“Ashton, are you tired of being my husband?”
He didn’t answer
The silence was worse than anything he could have said.
I went to our bedroom, hoping that a moment of solitude would help us both calm down.
A few minutes later Ashton walked in.
I thought he would apologize to me.
Instead, still with poor vision, I saw him crouch down next to our bed and slide something under it.
He looked at me.
I quickly lowered my gaze.
“Is everything okay?” he asked.
“Everything’s all right.”
“I’m going to take a shower.”
I nodded.
But my heart was pounding.
What did he hide?
What else could he be doing in front of me if he thought I wasn’t seeing him?
I hardly slept that night.
The next morning Ashton left for work at his usual time.
