The attack immediately changed the nature of the incident. Instead of simply dealing with a disagreement between neighbors, officers were now confronted with an alleged assault against a member of the police.
The officers attempted to restrain the man and place him in handcuffs. At that point, however, the situation became even more dangerous.
Man Allegedly Pulls Out a Knife
As officers tried to handcuff the aggressor, he allegedly pulled out a knife and refused to comply with their commands.
The presence of a knife significantly increased the potential danger for everyone at the scene. Police officers were therefore required to take additional measures to bring the man under control.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the uniformed officers used physical force and auxiliary means in order to subdue him.
After an intervention, officers succeeded in controlling the man and taking him into custody.
He was subsequently transported to the Lom District Police Station, where he was detained for up to 24 hours.
Officer Suffers Minor Injuries
The police officer who was allegedly punched during the incident suffered minor injuries.
Although the injuries were described as minor, the incident highlights the risks police officers can face when responding to reports that initially appear to involve nothing more than a disagreement between neighbors.
