Pauline ended up undergoing bariatric surgery
Over time, Pauline progressed enough to undergo weight-loss surgery. Guinness World Records notes that after gastric bypass surgery, she lost approximately 150 pounds (68 kilograms), though her struggle with her weight continued afterward.
Bariatric surgery works by modifying the digestive system to help reduce food intake and, depending on the technique used, also alter absorption.
After surgery, significant changes in diet, medical follow-up, and monitoring for potential nutritional deficiencies are often necessary; therefore, long-term success also depends on the habits the patient manages to maintain.

Years after her first appearance, Pauline showed a considerable transformation.
Guinness later highlighted an update posted by Dr. Now himself, who publicly expressed his pride in Pauline’s commitment and progress.
For those who only remembered her from those early images in which practically her entire life revolved around her physical limitations, the change was considerable.
And therein lies one of the most important parts of her story: Pauline went from seeking public attention because she felt she needed help to successfully losing a significant amount of weight under medical treatment.
Even after significant weight loss, these patients may require follow-up for years because the body has been subjected to a high metabolic and mechanical load for a long time, and some alterations may take time to improve or may not disappear completely.

Pauline’s last months were marked by health problems
Pauline’s life took another turn many years after her time on television; in January 2025 she was involved in a serious car accident that caused her, among other injuries, fractured ribs and a leg wound.
According to his son’s later account, during the following months he also experienced various medical problems, including digestive difficulties, COVID-19, and an esophageal obstruction. His condition deteriorated until he eventually required palliative care.
Pauline Potter finally passed away in 2025 at the age of 62.
