Early signs of pancreatic cancer: the silent symptoms that shouldn’t be ignored

Weight loss without dieting

Losing weight without changing your diet or increasing physical activity can be another warning sign. The body begins to absorb nutrients less efficiently, and metabolism is disrupted. Many patients report a significant decrease in appetite before diagnosis.

Although weight loss can have multiple causes, when it occurs rapidly or unexpectedly it is advisable to consult a health professional.

Abdominal or back pain

Pain associated with pancreatic cancer is not always severe at first. It is often described as a constant ache in the upper abdomen that may radiate to the back. Some people feel pressure under their ribs or pain between their shoulder blades.

Because this symptom can be confused with muscle or digestive problems, it is often ignored for months.

Jaundice: a sign that should never be ignored

Yellowing of the skin and eyes, known as jaundice, is one of the most recognizable signs. It usually appears when the tumor blocks the bile duct. In addition to the yellowing, urine may become darker and stools lighter.
