Her gaze stopped on the name.
Marcus Reed.
She frowned.
– Is that… are you sure?
I didn’t answer for a moment.
– No.
The man from 2C snorted.
“He said it was his place. I don’t know why we keep dragging this out.”
Allison looked at him, then at me.
– Please wait.
She walked a few steps away.
I heard her say something quietly to the other stewardess.
The woman with the phone continued recording.
I didn’t mean to cause a scene. I didn’t want to yell. I didn’t want to humiliate anyone.
I just sat there.
Exactly in place.
After about a minute, Allison returned.
This time her face was no longer confident.
– Mr. Reed…
– No?
– Could you show me your boarding pass again?
I handed her the phone.
She read it carefully.
Then she looked at me.
– This is indeed seat 1A.
– That’s what I was trying to say.
It became quiet.
The woman with the phone lowered the device.
The man from 2C stopped smiling.
Allison swallowed hard.
– I am very sorry for the misunderstanding.
– It wasn’t a misunderstanding.
Her face turned slightly red.
– I’m listening?
– You assumed all along that I couldn’t sit here.
She didn’t answer.
Then I took the second card out of my pocket.
It wasn’t a boarding pass.
It was an identification pass from the airport.
I handed it to Allison.
Her eyes widened.
Marcus Reed
Director of Aviation Safety
She looked at the document for a few seconds.
