The Younger Generation Discovers the Legends
One of the most fascinating aspects of modern music is how easily old songs return.
A track released decades ago can suddenly become popular again because of a movie, television series, social-media trend, advertisement, or viral video.
A new generation discovers the voice.
ome musicians respond by stepping away from public life.
Others continue recording and touring.
Some struggle with the emotional consequences of fame.
That is why remembering a legendary singer should involve more than remembering their biggest hits.
There was a person behind the voice.
Why Fans Never Really Say Goodbye
Music creates an unusual relationship between artist and audience.
When an actor dies, viewers can revisit their movies.
When an author dies, readers can reopen their books.
But music has an especially immediate quality.
