Here is what happened, why the judge rejected the defense request, and what the decision could mean for the next stage of the case.
What Happened in the Lindsay Clancy Case?
Lindsay Clancy, a former labor and delivery nurse from Duxbury, Massachusetts, was charged in connection with the January 2023 deaths of her three children: Cora, Dawson, and Callan.
The children were five years old, three years old, and eight months old, respectively, when they died. Their deaths shocked the local community and drew national attention to the family’s circumstances and the subsequent criminal investigation.
Clancy pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Her defense maintained that she was suffering from a severe mental health condition, described as postpartum psychosis, when the incident occurred. Prosecutors, however, argued that the evidence supported criminal responsibility.
The case eventually proceeded to trial, where jurors heard testimony about Clancy’s mental health, the events surrounding the deaths, and the experts’ differing interpretations of her psychological condition.
