Nora left her phone at home because Caleb had told her that her parents could locate it.

She left her sandals on, since she was walking barefoot anyway.

She put her sarong on over her swimsuit and got into her car.

I put both hands in front of my mouth.

Michael looked like he was about to vomit.

“What happened? Why didn’t she come home?”

Elaine remained silent for a moment. “Because he didn’t bring her back.”

At first, Nora apparently believed he was simply prolonging the journey.

Then he started controlling where she went.

He kept his money.

He told her that the police were looking for him now too, and that if she went home, they would both be arrested.

Then he started telling her that we hated her.

That he would never be forgiven for.

That everyone would find it stupid.
