I wiped my own face.
“What are you saying?”
“We’re done,” he laughed.
And then, to the room: “Can security see her out?”
He thought I was a girl off a farm with a modest inheritance.
He did not know that my grandfather founded Merrow Capital.
He did not know I control the family trust.
And he certainly did not know that in the March of 2024 I had quietly bought thirty-eight per cent of the company he worked for.
I looked at Hollis Braide, the chairman, whose colour had gone completely.
He knew exactly who I was.
And while my husband was kissing his assistant in front of two hundred people, I took my phone out and rang corporate counsel on speaker.
“Esta?”
“Yes, Mrs Mercer?”
What I actually said.
Not what people hope.
I did not fire him. A thirty-eight per cent shareholder cannot fire anybody. I could not have fired a man in that room if I had owned ninety per cent of it, because that is not how any of it works and anybody who has sat on a board knows it.
