My husband splashed champagne over my dress at his promotion gala to introduce his mistress.

The twenty-second of March: my analyst, a woman of about thirty called Tamar, emailed asking whether she should take item four forward.

I replied the following morning. Four words.

***Park it for now.***

That email exists. It has been read, during the review, by four people whose job it is to read things like that, and nobody has ever said a word to me about it, which is somehow worse than if somebody had.

The June: Tamar raised it again, in person, in a quarterly, and I said we would look at it when the group reported.

The September: the group reported. I did not look at it.

The January of 2025: Tamar left Larkspur for a fund in Brandt Harbour. In her handover there is a line listing item four as outstanding.

The March of 2025: the anniversary of the acquisition came and went and nobody mentioned it, because the only person in that organisation who knew item four was still open had been encouraged, politely, twice, to leave it alone.
