My husband told me he was exhausted from work and needed to go on vacation alone. At first, I tried to respect his space… But I couldn’t help but wonder why he didn’t want me there. So I followed him, and what I saw next to him gave me goosebumps.
When my husband Daniel came home one evening and told me he urgently needed a vacation, I wasn’t surprised.
Economy
For months he complained about work, sleepless nights, endless meetings and a feeling of complete exhaustion.
But then he added something I didn’t expect.
— I guess I’ll have to go alone.
I just looked at him.
We were married for seventeen years. We spent every holiday together.
— Alone? Why, Kara?
Daniel sighed and rubbed his forehead.
“Please don’t make this complicated. I just need a few days where no one needs anything from me.”
Travel and transportation
I wanted to understand this.
So I smiled, said I respected his decision, and even helped him pack his suitcase.
But the moment he drove away, something inside me started screaming that it had nothing to do with stress.
Daniel bought new clothes before the trip.
She cut her hair.
And when I casually asked him which hotel he had booked at, he avoided answering.
I hardly slept that night.
By the next morning, suspicion had swallowed up every reasonable explanation I tried to give myself.

So I did something I never expected.
I found a hotel reservation on my home computer that I accidentally left open.
The resort was only three hours away.
My hands were shaking as I gripped the keys.
I kept telling myself that I just wanted to be left alone.
