“Your father would certainly want me to act according to my conscience,” replied Tamara Sergeyevna.
The Sign and the Real Estate Agent
A week later, Marina went to the dacha to check the plumbing before the cold weather set in. An unfamiliar car was parked at the gate. Her neighbor, Aunt Valya, was watering the asters behind the fence.
— Marina, the real estate agent came back, she said “good morning” instead.
— Which real estate agent?
“The one who visited the house last week. They went around with your Kirill, took measurements. Apparently we can get a good price for that plot by the lake.”
Marina felt her hands grow cold. She opened the gate and stepped into the courtyard.
The house was chilly. Kirill stood in the middle of the living room with a tape measure. He was measuring the wall and writing down the numbers on his phone.
“Hi,” he said, barely looking at her. “Three meters by four. For a room, that’s a normal size.”
