“We can’t use this mattress anymore,” he said suddenly, shaking his head.
“Why? We can clean it,” Ginevra replied, confused by his reaction.
“That’s not the problem,” Dario muttered, as he pulled out a small bag hidden inside the mattress. It contained various dried herbs.
“What is it?” asked Ginevra, looking at the contents.
“They’re fertility herbs,” Darius replied, with a mixture of disbelief and suspicion.
Ginevra didn’t know what to think. Had Giada really put a natural remedy in the mattress without telling her? What if this was what had helped her pregnancy? A sense of unease enveloped her.

That night, Ginevra and Dario couldn’t sleep. The next day, they decided to confront Giada. When her mother-in-law arrived as usual, Dario got straight to the point:
“Mom, why didn’t you tell us about the mattress? About the herbs?”
Giada looked down and sighed.
“I just wanted to help you,” she admitted. “I know how much you wanted a child, and I know the benefits of some traditional herbs. I figured if it worked, you wouldn’t care how.”
