Part 4: The Internal Affairs Call
“Give the driver his license and registration. Now,” Sarah commanded.
Tom’s hands shook as he handed the paperwork back to a stunned Mike, who was staring at Sarah wide-eyed, unable to believe his luck.
Sarah pulled out her personal cell phone and dialed a direct line. “This is Captain Johnson, badge number 4412. I need a transport unit and an Internal Affairs representative at my location immediately. I have a Sergeant Tom Davis and two subordinates caught in flagrante for extortion, assault, and abuse of power. Have their badges suspended effective immediately.”
Hearing those words, one of Tom’s junior officers panicked. “Captain, please! We were just following the Sergeant’s orders! He forces us to do this, he takes a cut of everything!”
“Shut up, Miller!” Tom barked, though his voice lacked any real power now. He turned to Sarah, trying to appeal to her. “Captain, please. We’re on the same team. Don’t ruin my career over a taxi driver.”
Sarah looked at him with pure disgust. “You wear the same uniform I do, but we are not on the same team. You are a criminal with a badge.”
