As a baby, Xueli was abandoned outside an orphanage. The reason, as she later came to understand, was likely tied to her albinism. Her condition made her visibly different, and in a society where conformity is often valued, this difference may have been seen as a burden rather than a unique trait.
Yet, what could have been the end of her story became the beginning of something remarkable.
A New Life in the Netherlands
At the age of three, Xueli was adopted by a loving family in the Netherlands. This marked a turning point in her life—a shift from uncertainty to stability, from rejection to belonging.Growing up in Europe, she was exposed to a more inclusive environment, though challenges still remained. Albinism affects not only appearance but also vision, meaning Xueli had to navigate daily life with visual impairments. Bright lights, reading, and even basic activities required extra care and adaptation.
