Two years ago our lives changed in an instant.
I was in a serious car accident, leaving me with multiple broken bones and serious injuries. I spent months recovering, learning to move freely again and adapting to a future that suddenly seemed unknown.
The worst consequence was loss of vision.
Doctors explained that it was possible to improve my vision, but they couldn’t promise anything. I had to prepare for the possibility that the vision loss would be permanent.
At first, even simple tasks seemed overwhelming.
I couldn’t recognize faces, read my favorite books, or see my reflection. I had to learn new ways to move around the house and manage daily activities.
Sometimes I cried with frustration when I couldn’t find something I had dropped, or when I had trouble finishing a task that had previously come easily to me.
In these first months, Ashton showed incredible patience.
He helped me settle into our home, organize my belongings, and develop routines that gave me more independence. When I spilled a drink, he wiped it up without complaint. When I lost my nerve, he sat by my side until I felt ready to try again.
