I lost one of my twin babies during labor when the nurse placed my surviving son in my arms, she leaned in and whispered, “Watch the video I just sent you before you trust your husband.”

Leo stretched in his sleep.

Martin turned his head toward his brother.

Sometimes I still found myself standing beside their cribs simply watching them breathe.

Not because I expected something terrible to happen.

But because there had been a moment when I didn’t know where one of them was.

And I never wanted to take an ordinary moment with them for granted again.

I looked at Judy.

“There’s something I never asked you.”

“What?”

“Why did you tell me?”

She thought for a moment.

“Because you deserved accurate information about your own child.”

“That simple?”

“That simple.”

I smiled.

Sometimes the biggest difference in someone’s life comes from another person deciding not to stay silent.

A few minutes later, Leo woke first.

Then Martin.

I lifted one boy into each arm.

They settled against me as though that was exactly where they belonged.

Six months earlier, other people had convinced themselves that they knew what was best for me.

They made choices without asking.

Signed documents without explaining.

And assumed I would eventually accept whatever had already been decided.
They were wrong.

I didn’t need revenge.

I needed the truth.

And once I had it, I could finally make my own decisions.

I carried my sons toward the window and looked outside.

No secrets.

No hidden paperwork.

No one deciding our future behind closed doors.

Just the three of us.

Safe.

Together.

Home.
